I've been getting slammed with spam comments lately one the blog and I'm trying to figure out how to get rid of them without making it difficult for real people to actually comment.
So I changed a setting...it may look different and I'd love some feedback. I think it might require you to sign in some how. but you may already be signed in on your computer. I don't know about these things.
Thanks everyone! It looks like it worked!
Everything looks the same for me!
ReplyDeleteall is well....love your blog.
DeleteI'm just testing the comments. It looks the same for me.
ReplyDeleteI just had to do the same thing on my blog, and I don't even have that many "real" followers! Hilarious as some of the spam was, it was eating into my free time.
ReplyDeleteIt will be the same for everyone on blogger, it's jus those that are on other platforms that might have to sign in. I have to fill in my details on Wordpress, so it might be the same for them on blogger.
ReplyDeleteEveryone's getting hit with the spam, it seems to be one of those things.
Looks the same as most blogs to me! :) Not difficult at all.
ReplyDeleteEasy-peasey!
ReplyDeleteEasy for me to comment too!
ReplyDeleteNo worries here -- very easy to comment.
ReplyDeleteJust testing your comments out. I get spam too, basically anything that comes in from Anonymous goes directly in the trash.
ReplyDeleteKelly, you are a no reply blogger. Did you have to sign in to leave a comment?
DeleteI had to disable anonymous comments on my blog!
ReplyDeleteNo problems here - exactly the same as almost every blog I comment on :-) Sorry you've had to deal with yucky spam!
ReplyDeleteSo far no problems... The spam does stink - I hope this changes it for you!
ReplyDeleteYep, no problems - same thing as most other blogs since I am already signed in. Those w/o blogger accounts or gmail accounts that aren't actively signed in may have an issue, but don't let that stop them! I think every Wordpress site I've commented on I have had to log in in some way and those blogs still seem to get good traffic!
DeleteIt was no problem . I hate spam also
DeleteStephanie
Comment party time! :)
ReplyDeleteNo worries here. Good idea to test it out.
ReplyDeleteSpam is stinky.
ReplyDeleteThis seems like the majority of the sites where I leave comments...so far. Spam stinks!
ReplyDeleteWhen I turned off word confirmation I started getting a ton of spam and had to turn it back on. I'm interested to hear more about your change. It looks the same to me.
ReplyDeleteIt looks the same, to me. On my blogs I changed one thing, too. After the first day, comments need to be moderated. That stopped the spammers. I hope your change works for you.
ReplyDeleteJust trying this out to see if it works for you, it might work for me.
ReplyDeleteI wonder who decided that spam was an awesome business opportunity. Who thinks like that? Anyway, just testing the comments. Looks fine for me!
ReplyDeleteJust testing the comments.
ReplyDeleteHiya, no problems here :)
ReplyDeleteI think that the spam is mostly done automatically or by people hired to do it. But I agree, it's so weird!
ReplyDeleteA test for you. I use blogger and thus far nothing is different.
ReplyDeleteAfter I commented a message came up and said there was an error in the gadget.
ReplyDeleteBah, I've been getting mucho spam lately too. I feel like I get it more when I'm less active on the blog. I haven't posted much in the past couple of weeks, and I'm getting at least 1 spam comment a day since. All seems the same so far on this comment...
ReplyDeleteHopefully this helps!
ReplyDeleteChecking it out - apparently I'm already signed in through Google Reader and it doesn't look like I'll ahve a problem leaving a comment!
ReplyDeleteThis is how I have mine set up too, and I never get spam :o)
ReplyDeleteHello!Just testing.
ReplyDeleteTesting, testing. I hope it eliminates your spam.
ReplyDeleteok
ReplyDeleteworks fine for me. I was getting spam until I turned off the ability to allow anonymous comments. That did the trick, even without having word verification on. I figure if an anonymous commenter really wants to leave a comment, my email is there, so they can. Can't say as it caused any drop off.
ReplyDeleteI was getting a lot of spam too. Then I realized it was mostly coming to one particular post and went back and reviewed the comments. I found a couple with links in them and eliminated them. The spam has gone way down. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWorks for me. Sorry about all the spam.
ReplyDeleteWell, so far the same...I do have a google id so that i can make comments.
ReplyDeletesince you're dying to hear from me... ;)
ReplyDeleteEverything looks okay
ReplyDeleteTesting, testing, 123.
ReplyDeleteI had to sign in to google before I could comment, otherwise very easy
ReplyDeleteso when you signed in, you must not have to include your email address...because you are still a no reply commenter. That's interesting.
DeleteIt seems to me ok, by the way the most secure way to avoid spam is to put captcha, that are really annoying.....
ReplyDeleteIt looked the same and no code to input. Can you share what you did?
ReplyDeleteYes, I think I just said that only logged in users could comment. It basically eliminates any anonymous comments which is where those spam comments come from. I'm hoping it works.
DeleteSure hope this corrects your spam problem. I'm with you, I hate spam.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteJust thought I would test. I usually comment as anonymous because I don't have my own blog.
ReplyDeletecontentncm at yahoo dot com
so you are still a no reply commenter. obviously you left your email there but I'm just trying to figure this all out. Even when you sign in it doesn't look like you have to leave an email. So that still lets people be a bit anonymous. Or at least hard to get a hold of. lol
Deletethings look the same for me. so sorry you had to deal wth spam. ugghh. just testing. i love following your blog
ReplyDeleteTesting comment. Looking the same so far. lets see wha thappens when i go to publish it
ReplyDeleteIt didn;t ask for anything when I hit the publish button. I am a subscriber and read you posts. I am not a spammer. That is so horriable and I hat ereceivng it also.
ReplyDeleteWorked like a charm.
ReplyDeleteI hope this fixes your problem. I like to leave comments but not so fond of all the hoops some blogs require.
ReplyDeleteEvelyn, a no reply commenter, left a comment which I got sent to my email but I don't see here on the blog. I'm just making notes for anyone following along.
